Pasadena, Glendale, and Arcadia have been pounded intense heat waves these last few weeks and I’ve been turning to the wisdom of trailer park gurus to mitigate the effects of weather while balancing the myriad of my family’s demands. Your skin health is vital not just for your confidence but also for the sanity of your fellow room occupants! This is a quick fix for staying alert and functional during the sweltering final days of Summer.


Understanding Your Skin:

Amidst the summer heat waves, your skin undergoes significant changes as it strives to regulate your body temperature. The increased sweat and oil production can lead to clogged pores and lost friends, potentially resulting in various skin or debt collection issues. According to traditional Chinese medicine, clogged pores might manifest as headaches, nausea, or confusion. Therefore, it's crucial to understand how your skin reacts to the heat and humidity to mitigate any potential risks effectively.


The Dangers of Rapid Climate Switching:

Transitioning between the blazing outdoor heat and heavily air-conditioned indoor environments can jeopardize the perfusion of your skin. You can’t always avoid arctic air simulations if you actively travel, but you can counter these effects by simply cleaning the pores of your skin periodically.

It may be hard to believe, but after generations of experimentation, I have at last discovered and reinvented cheap, $2 airconditioning, and exfoliation! Behold, a towel! Simply wet the towel, and clean the sweat and oil off the exposed areas of your skin.  The better your skin can breathe, the better you will feel and look!


Beneficial Skincare Practices in Hot Zones:

Prioritize cleansing and protecting exposed areas like the head (especially behind the ears), neck (front and back!), shoulders, and elbows.  It doesn’t hurt to get the arm pits too, as they tend to be the most clogged on average due to deodorant and the geography of being a dark damp crevice! These regions are most vulnerable to environmental extremes and necessitate specialized care to prevent exposure complications. For my filthy friends out there, also consider using lightweight facial soaps to preserve the cleanliness, freshness, and really, your functionality! It's a little extra effort, but your roommates with thank you for it!


This is a detail I have to pay attention to especially after a workout that doesn’t already take place in a pool.  Especially when I’m exhausted my sweat takes on a particularly thick and greasy quality that I have to cleanse off after a workout like boxing or weightlifting. The skin is your biggest organ, so don't be shy when taking care of it.
